Why have a 'Friends of Sabuj Sangha' organisation?

A number of foreign visitors and volunteers have spent time at Sabuj Sangha's projects and have felt that they wanted to continue their relationship with the organisation once they returned home.
"We spent three weeks based in Sabuj Sangha's rural projects in the Sundarbans and were overwhelmed by the work being done to reduce poverty and improve the lives of the people there. The coaching centres and bridge course centres are carrying out crucial work in supporting vulnerable children. It was wonderful to spend time with children as young as ten who had been domestic workers, but who have now returned to their families and are involved in a programme to help them re-enter mainstream education. These children were so full of life and totally engaged in learning; it was difficult to imagine the hardship they had endured as workers in Kolkata (Calcutta)."
"Sabuj Sangha has achieved fantastic results by introducing innovative concepts such as youth leadership, empowerment of women and self-help groups to the isolated, rural communities of the Sundarbans. Its micro-finance programme has succeeded in encouraging enterprise and has given women the knowledge and means to help themselves. The fact that Sabuj Sangha has had the vision and determination to apply these concepts and effect real change is very impressive. Supporting Sabuj Sangha is not a case of providing charity; it is supporting sustainable development in action."

"I learned about a very different world when I volunteered for Sabuj Sangha in the Sunderban Delta. A world without electricity, public transport and adequate health services, where malnutrition, poor sanitation and child labour still exist. Things that we Westerners take for granted like running water and toilets, most people here do not have. Sabuj Sangha has already made a big difference and improved the life of thousands significantly but there is a lot more to do…"
